Definition: Skanda Basti is a therapeutic procedure in Ayurveda that focuses on healing and rejuvenating the shoulder or scapular region by retaining medicated oil or herbal decoctions in a specific area.

Sanskrit: "Skanda," meaning shoulder, and "Basti," meaning to hold or retain.

Description: A dough ring made of black gram or wheat flour is placed over the shoulder region (either on one or both shoulders). Warm, medicated herbal oil is poured into the dough ring and retained for a specific time, allowing the oil to penetrate deeply. The temperature of the oil is maintained by reheating or replacing the oil as required during the session. The treatment duration typically ranges between 20-40 minutes, depending on the individual's condition and the practitioner's recommendation.

Benefits

  • Nervous System Support: Soothes the nerves and helps with stress-related tension in the shoulders and neck.
