 Definition: Janu Basti is an effective Ayurvedic therapy for acute or chronic knee pain. It gives relief from the pain and stiffness associated with knee pain.

Sanskrit: Janu= knee joint, Basti= the container or retainer

Description: In this the knee joint is bathed with warm medicated oil or freshly prepared herbal decoction. Depending on the condition it can be practiced over both the knee joints or on one knee joint.

Procedure

The person lies on the massage table on his back. The dough ring covered the knee joint and made of black gram dough. The ring should be leak-proof. Herbal decoction or lukewarm medicated oil is slowly poured into the ring. Oil is squeezed out with cotton gauze when it is cooled down, and the procedure is repeated. The affected area may be gently massaged after the completion of the process. The ring is removed, and the person takes a rest for a short while.

  • Have a restful evening and early to bed.
